Pearl District

Converted warehouses, galleries, and a walkable grid just north of downtown.

About the area

The Pearl District was Portland's rail yard and warehouse district until the 1990s, when the same brick-and-timber buildings that shipped freight got converted into lofts. It's still the densest, most walkable part of the city — no yard to mow, but you're a five-minute walk from the streetcar, First Thursday gallery openings, and Powell's. Most of what's on the market here is condos and lofts, not single-family houses.
